Week 11

Jul 29
4 min read

Forget about ever taking a week off again, tensions were way too high in week 11! The group chat was on fire early in the day as the forecast had everyone nervous. Fearing that the Commish would have us all travel out again just to turn around and head for the Pub.

Luckily, we have our league weatherman (featured in this week's image) who is connected to God and has the power to pray the rain away. With a history of strong performance in Earth Science, J Ging must know something we don't because this week was nothing but sun! Who needs Coach B when we got this guy!

As this week we ramp up leading into the sold-out Signature tournament, we will need STRONG prayers from Ging to flip this forecast and have an awesome Sunday.

In other news, league season is beginning the wind down and we are starting to figure out when to start playoffs. With Anthony out August 11th, and the tight race at the top of the leaderboard for league winner, I'd adocate for at least two more weeks of league play to begin playoffs on August 18th for whoever can make it. Just a suggestion!

Group Results:

1.  Cavs. Sr & Buster [PK]  vs. Tommy & Anthony [PK]

In the Buster vs Anthony rubber match, this group was once again a pick em'. With the two facing each other in Week 7, Anthony took the W. In week 8, Buster took the W in overtime. And for the last time this year in week 11, the stage was set. With help of two of the league leaders in Cavs and Tommy this match was anticipated to be very even all the way around and it turned out to be just that. With Buster and Anthony putting on a par fest, there was very little room for either team to take advantage, with rumbles that Buster was "the luckiest golfer on the planet". He must have gotten a few good bounces along the way, especially banking one off the tree on hole 8! Ultimately, this match ended in a tie with the groups electing not to go to overtime and secure the 1.5 points each.

2.  Rico Jr. & Ryan [-1.5]  vs. George & Turrisi Sr. [+1.5]

With this group being heavily criticized early in the day for the line, Geo complaining about a sore back and Eckl saying Rico has been way to hot lately to be playing at a -1, this line shifted up to 2 and then back down to 1.5. Ultimately it didn't matter as Rico Jr and Ryan had been waiting all year to play together and definitely made it worth it. In arguably their best rounds all year, the two carded 39s and never scored more than a par collectively all the way around. The only way for Geo or Turrisi to win a hole would have been to birdie and it was never the case. Despite Turrisi carding an impressive 42, this match was over very early as Rico and Ryan cruised to the victory.

3.  Jay & Bryce [-2.5]  vs. J Ging & Jack [+2.5]

We missed Johnny Cavs this week in what was anticipated to be the dope show of the year. But luckily, the league has found its newest super-sub in Jay! As the pens were hit and pipes were sparked early, this group was in the clouds before teeing off on the 1st hole. However, with the addition of Jay, the group decided to shift this line to 2.5, and it almost backfired on Bryce and Jay. Powered by the dope, Jack played out of his mind as Bryce said it was the best he had ever seen him play. Somehow, this group came down to the last hole but when asked what the score was, no one knew for sure. With swoopy needing to two-putt to seal the victory, we had Ging tending the flags and reading his putts. It was truly a sight to see as Ging couldn't even see straight! You wouldn't believe it, but swoopy was not able to secure the two-putt, giving Jay and Bryce the W in the end.

4.  Uncle Rico & Jake [+2]  vs. Bunting & Eckl [-2]

A hot start and slow finish for this group, as Jake and Uncle Rico came out with a bang, winning the first two holes and going 4-up on the match early. Followed by the two falling apart the rest of the 9, they scrambled to hold on. As Bunting and Eck cam roaring back, as seems to be typical Eck fashion, this group also came down to the 9th hole. On the 9th, Rico's drive found the fairway and proceeded to stick it to within 5 feet for his birdie putt, followed by a confident stride to the green and all smiles. We don't know if he was smiling about the match or that he was that much closer to getting home to shark week. But, Eckl was locked in and did not want to have another tie. However, as the Bunting and Eckl pair bogeyed, all Rico needed to do was two-putt to tie, and he said forget about the win, I don't want the stress. Lagging his 4 footer up to the hole, Rico knocked in a tap in par and this group ended all square.
