Week 13 - The Last Recap

Aug 12
4 min read

That's it boys, the regular season has come to an end. From May through August we have played just about every Tuesday and with that we can crown:

Buster Masi

Season Champion

Big congratulations to Buster, who took control and shot a 35 on the day to take the crown! More to come in the group results.

Pausing on the league play for a moment to recap the other events of the day. As is tradition as we wind down the league, the fantasy football season begins to ramp up. This week at the Signature League was draft order night. As Commisioner Jake dressed in Green Bay green and serenaded us with Little River Band karaoke to set the tone, followed by the fading in of the Sunday Night NFL theme and very high excitement.

As shown in the feature image, team GeorgeFloyd69 won the draft lottery for the first overall pick, and the Himbardi trophy (although forgotten by Cavs who refuses to part ways with it) has been transferred to Charlie's Angels, last year's fantasy winners.

Following the draft, Tino got back on the mic for an extended version of Reminiscing as he played us out. As James said, let the mock drafts begin!

Shifting back to golf - we had a lot on the line this week as Cavs, Jake, and Buster all had a shot to take the league title, with Cavs and Jake squaring off in the last match of the day.

Group Results:

1.  Uncle Rico & Rico Jr. [PK]  vs. Bryce & Eckl [PK]

Well, we had to get Uncle Rico and Bryce one more day together, so we pulled some strings to make it happen. Although in opposite carts, we had to get the Ricotta father son duo in at least once this summer, even though all Uncle Rico wants to do is play with Bryce. In a pick'em to end the year, this group was supposed to be more abut friendship than competitiveness but ended up going to a triple OT thriller. Reports were that Rico Jr made 10 footer after 10 footer to keep this group alive, as Uncle Rico had lost interest a long time ago. Inevitably, this group ended in a tie as after 3 holes of extra play, everyone ran out of steam. Eck unfortunately could not find a win in his last 4 weeks of play as he went all ties.

2.  Buster & George [-5]  vs. Jack & Bunting [+5]

In the first title match of the evening, we had two father son duos in team Masi and team Athena. With a very high line of 5, a lot of stress was put on Buster and Geo, with Buster having spent the day at the casino leading up to the round. As mentioned earlier, Buster ended up shooting a 35 followed by a 41 from Geo. But vegas held this match pretty even as it ended up coming down to the last hole. Ultimately, Buster was able to seal this one with a win on the last and secure the points to claim the top spot on the leaderboard, putting the pressure on the groups behind him.

3.  Johnny Cavs & Ian [+2]  vs. Tommy & J Ging [-2]

In a shocking turn of events in group 3, this ended up being Tommy's round of the year. On paper this match was going to be the dope show round of the week, but Tommy locked in and carded a 39 on the day, breaking 40 for the first time this year and seemingly peaking at the right time going into playoffs. With Johnny, Ian and Ging's minds gone from the dope, this was Tommy's match to control and he took full advantage. Perhaps the quote of the year from Ging to start this round as he visualized his first drive was:

"I'm going 150 down the drizzy." as he pulled out his 5 iron and hit his shot just about 150... down the drizzy.

4.  Cavs Sr. & Ryan [-2.5]  vs. Jake & Jay [+2.5] & Weigand [Guest]

In the last group of the day, the pressure was on as the hope for Cavs and Jake would be to have a shot at the league title pending earlier results. Off the first tee all four players hit the fairway and we were off to the races. Missing two critical putts early, Tino's momentum faded as Cavs and Ryan were able to win the first 3 to go up a half point. Holding the line, Jay and Jake were able to not lose another and ended up winning the 2nd par 3 to go back up a half. As Cavs' speaker died, the pairing started to fall apart as Jake had Cavs and Ryan right where he wanted them. Unfortunately, they could not capitalize on the chaos as Cavs was able to win hole 17, putting them up a half and in control going into the last. Followed by a bomb drive and dot by Ryan to ice it, the Jake and Jay pair fell in the end, but ultimately didn't matter due to Buster winning earlier. Honorable mention, Weigand made it through the nine but was on and off all the way around, as the ball very rarely made it off the ground from his swings. It was a good practice round to end the season! However, Weigs made a generous donation to the Rashad fund at dinner and it was great to have him with the boys for a day.

Playoffs:

Next week we will start playoffs. Please review the playoff tab to refresh on the rules.

This will shift from match play to 1vs1 stroke play. We know Buster will be out for playoffs, if anyone else plans to miss weeks, please let us know. The final bracket will be revealed closer to next Tuesday. Stay Tuned!

Signing off for 2026 Recaps, it has been a pleasure boys! Time to start working on the schedule for next year!
