Week 8

Week 8 was HOT. We felt like we were all in Florida with Jake this week as temperatures climbed to the 90s and the humidity was so high that Johnny had to take his clothes off.
Speaking of Florida, the league was thrilled to welcome James back as a guest this week, subbing in for older brother as they switched locations on us. What a breath of fresh air it was to have James this week and I can guarantee Timber Ridge was happy to pour a few less triple jack and cokes!
Injury Report
George Masi: Mysterious Illness - DNP
The league is wondering what happened to Geo this week, backing out of the match late in the afternoon. Reports from Buster came in that Geo was facing an illness that came on suddenly. Speculations were that the heat got to him and he was maybe suffering from a case of dehydration, or maybe he just wanted to go float in a pool. Or perhaps the high line of +5 he would have had to cover brought on a panic attack. Either way, we wish Geo a speedy recovery in whatever got him!
Group Results
1. Buster & Ryan [PK] vs. Anthony & Rico Jr. [PK]
Well its no secret that Ryan specifically put this one on the calendar, as these four players had yet to all meet in a foursome. Bumping this match to mid-year, the thought was everyone would be in peak form and it would be a tight one. With all the anticipation Ryan of course got delayed and had to go cold off the tee with no pre-round warm up and a heart rate hovering around 160bpm. As expected this match turned out to be exactly what it was chalked up to be. Interestingly, there was a little competitive fire between Buster and Anthony, as Buster would give Anthony a little flex after pumping his driver past him.. followed by a wink from Anthony after his 2nd shot was consistently closer to the pin than Busters. As the pairs scrambled hole after hole, with Rico and Ryan sucking around the greens, this match finished dead even after 9 holes. The players said fuck a tie, and went to the first hole for OT. As Anthony, Buster, and Ryan all had 3 footers for par, Ryan was able to drain his, taking all the pressure off of Buster. In a heartbreaker, Anthony's putt just slid past the hole, sealing the match for Buster and Ryan.
2. Cavs Sr. & Ian [+2.5] vs. Bryce & Eckl [-2.5]
No glove Commish and Rochester's most dedicated new golfer Ian took on a hot Eckl and Bryce this week, but it seems like the heat got the better of Bryce. Carding a 41 this week Eckl continues his third week of stellar play but is lacking the points on the leaderboard to show for it. Reports were that Cavs and Ian were able to take this one and people might be pointing to the Vegas lines for Commish especially as he coincidentally finds himself atop the leaderboard all of a sudden.. But, reports of this match was that despite the club slipping out of Commish's hands a few times, the iron game was spot on and was able to stick green after green. Eckl and Cavs will battle once again next week and we expect the match to be a little tighter!
3. Johnny Cavs & Uncle Rico [PK] vs. James & J Ging [PK]
Not sure what to say here as I'm not sure golf was even played... If you saw the pictures you would see that Johnny was basically naked and I'm pretty sure that happened on the 2nd hole. Johnny was also spotted carrying a box of twisted teas out of the Timber Ridge clubhouse to the cart pre-round. With a lot of excitement to have James in the group this week, I wouldn't be shocked if they hung out drinking and flipped a coin to see who won each hole! Jokes aside, we have to proudly report that after making his presence known after last week and coming into a pick'em today, Uncle Rico was able to bring home the W and snag his first true 3pts of the season. It may have been all fun and games for the rest, but Uncle Rico was locked in! I didn't ask what the scores were for this group, I had seen enough!
4. Bunting & Jack [+3] vs. Tommy [-3]
With Geo battling his illness, the short notice left Tommy on an island to battle Bunting and Swoopy. Finding the line was tricky for this and to be honest, I'm not sure what was decided but I know it was somewhere between 2 and 3. Ultimately, it didn't matter. Bunting may be flying under the radar as he impressively carded a 43 on the day and took it to Tommy! Tommy on the other hand, is searching for his game back. After a hot start to the league season and finding his way to the top of the leaderboard, the last couple weeks his scores have been going the wrong direction and hovering around the 50s. Whatever the line was for this group, it didn't matter as JB was on a mission. Also of note... look who's back on top. Welcome back to the top of the leaderboard Jack! Another possible under the radar player as it was reported that Swoopy chipped in from 30 yards out. You may be wondering what club was used, or was it an actual "chip" or a "swoopy scoop". It was confirmed that it was a legit golf shot that found its way into the hole. Maybe Swoopy won't be denied this year?
Enjoy the 4th gents!
