Week 9

Happy Birthday Cuz!
Happy Birthday Cuz!

Week 9 is in the books and this one was a fun one all the way around! Celebrating the birthday of Buster and a belated to Luca, who commish gifted a fresh handle of Titos! Not bad!

We were also treated to a surprise player as James joined the 4th group (and almost took out Bunting from his drive off of hole 3) and Nicole joining the group for dinner!

Vibes were so high we had to go with the 30 minute Chuck Mangione "Feels So Good" version as we sang Happy Birthday and Commish cut the ice cream cake. Rico Sr. had been drinking for 5 days straight and almost had to be wheeled out by the end of it all.. what a night!!

Group 1. Anthony & Tommy [-2]  vs. Eckl & George [+2]

Originally at a 1.5 line, this one was adjusted to 2 right before tee off as the fear of God.. I mean Anthony.. crept into the minds of Eckl and George. With this match being fairly close throughout the round, it wasn't until Eckl ad Geo left some putts short on 6 that started to turn the tide in favor of Tommy and Anth. Word had it Anth hardly needed the putter all day as his approach game was tap in after tap in.. tough to compete when he is on auto-par mode! With a lot of positive momentum Anthony is starting to make a push for the top, as Tommy is hanging around in that 3rd place spot.. waiting for an opening to sneak upinto the top spot?

Group 2. Ryan & Jack [+2]  vs. Buster & Bunting [-2]

With redemption on their mind from the first time Ryan and Jack were paired together, the two did everything they could to get off to a hot start. Playing Chris Cross off the first tee, Ryan was able to hit a good drive, as Jack worked his way up the range hitting about 9 balls on the way through, warming up the back and playig whichever oneflew the best. But, after pushing the first 3 holes, Buster and Bunting said enough is enough. Winning the next 4, with a notable par from JB on the way to win a hole, Ryan and Jack needed to win the last 2 to push. Winning the par 3 8th it came down to the last hole in a win and tie, or push and lose scenario. With a solid par from Ryan and Buster hitting OB, it came down to JB to be the hero. After a decent drive, the second shot ripped through the bunker somehow and ended up just off the green.. Following a decent chip, it was JB found himself a sink it to win it scenario.. His heart was pounding. After Buster lined up the putt, it was curtains for Ryan and Jack as JB drilled it for par, securing the win for the pair. What a match.

Group 3. J Ging & Turrisi Sr. [-3] vs. Cavs Sr. & Johnny Cavs [+3]

Team Cavallaro goes by one phrase and that's "Positive Vibes Only"... yeah right! In a nail biter, Commish was locked in and on a mission to find a way to end Turrisi Sr.'s win streak, and was feelign confident with a +3 line. However, he didn't account for LeHim to have a hot day and shoot the best round he has had to date. As Johnny approached 70 strokes and tapped out, Commish took on the Ging and Turrisi pair head on, but kept coming up short on his putts. Coming into the last, Commish did all he could to give his team a chance, as he left himself a straight 4 footer to tie the match... but the pressure was just too much as he missed yet again another putt when it mattered most. As the King Turrisi Sr adds another win to the belt and Ging pulls a little further ahead from Johnny on the leaderboard, team Cavallaro was in shambles and felt like they did not deserve to lose that one.

Group 4. Jake & Rico Sr. [+2] vs. Bryce & Rico Jr. [-2] & James

This line was questionable going into the match but Jake has never been one to back down from a challenge. With Tino sporting the fresh read polo and crisp white shorts, he knew he was up for a tall test against Rico and Bryce this week. But, rewinding to hole 3 with James' drive, as Group 2 was putting on the 4th hole, a ball comes flying in and missed JB's foot by about 2 feet, and honestly almost dunked it in the hole on that green.. a FORE would've been nice! Anyways, this match went all the way to the last green, as it did with every group this week and left Jake in a sink it to tie scenario. As the whole league watched, Anth read it as a ball outside left andsure enough Tino saw the same thing and drilled his putt.. with a roar from the crowd, this left Rico J. thinking about hanging it up as he claims to be golfing too much and going the wrong direction.. which Raina will love to hear!
